Christine Assange, Australian Greens Senator Scott Ludlam, and others will participate in a public forum at Bleeding Heart on March 17. Bleeding Heart’s website elaborates:

“The aggressive response of governments and corporations to the work of the publishing organisation WikiLeaks poses serious questions about the future of the internet, government transparency and freedom of speech.

“WikiLeaks staff, in particular editor-in-chief Julian Assange, have been subject to a campaign of sustained harassment and surveillance. This has taken the focus away from the extraordinary window that these leaks have opened into the reality of Government corruption, diplomacy and war.

“We rely on the courage of journalists and publishers to expose the truth, and they need the rest of us to stand up for them when powerful interests are threatened. Join us for a conversation on war and WikiLeaks, and plug into the fascinating campaign for transparency and freedom of expression online.

“Time: 2pm – 4pm (special networking and drinks from 4pm – 6pm)
Date: Saturday 17th March
Admission: Free

“All Welcome!

“Special Guests:

  • Christine Assange – Mother of Wikileaks editor-in-chief Julian Assange
  • Peter Black – Senior Lecturer, Queensland University of Technology
